YVETTE GELLIS
American artist Yvette Gellis lives and works in Los Angeles, California. She received her M.F.A. in 2008 from Claremont Graduate University. Ms. Gellis was born and raised in the Chicago area, where she discovered profound inspiration in the contrast between the expansive pastoral vistas of her Midwestern upbringing and the urban landscapes of Chicago and other metropolitan sprawls. This perspective is vigorously apparent to anyone who views the opposing forces in her bright and kinetic work. More recently she has been utilizing mixed media to explore her vision of the contemporary urban environment. Her installations are an outgrowth from her painting practice.
Solo exhibitions include PaintHouse in Tainan and the East / Gate Museum with The Licence Gallery in Taipei, Taiwan, The Kim Light/LIGHTBOX Gallery previously in Los Angeles, The Garboushian Gallery in Beverly Hills, The 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica, Conflux City festival in New York City and the Brunnhofer Galerie in Austria.
Selected group shows include Fellows Of Contemporary Art LA, The Torrance Art Museum,
The Cerritos College Art Gallery, Artra, LA, Toomey-Tourell, SanFrancisco, Museum of Biblical Art Dallas Texas, a CIVA traveling exhibition, The Royal T’s – “In Bed Together,” and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Her public art installations in Taiwan, NYC, Los Angeles, and Austria are a continued outgrowth of her practice as a painter.
Most notable reviews include Art in America magazine, LA Weekly, Art LTD - Artist Profile, and the Huffington Post.
Ms. Gellis was awarded an artist residency at the 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica and a 2014 CAMAC residency in France.
